Launching the "Women In Music" song in 2006, we pioneered with our own promotional video - song written by Geri Minelli.

The Women In Music Festival - Birmingham was created in 2003 after it's founder Geri Minelli decided to celebrate IWD in musical fashion.  Spending the in between years, on an awareness campaign, the voluntary team took time to present other musical ventures whilst waiting to host it's own dedicated event in 2006.

Since forming, the Festival went on to join the 100 Years of Female Recognition in Uniting The Nations Weekend and declared International Women in Music Day at the City Council House in Birmingham in 2008.

Each year, the date of March 28th will be celebrated by females all around the world, involved and working in the music industry, helping to pave the way for generations of ladies young and old wishing to further their vocations in the biggest entertainment sector on earth.

The Women In Music Festival was founded in 2003, by Co-ordinator Geri Mineli. who spent 3 years injecting her money and time into making it happen, bringing the first Festival to fruition in 2006.

The event which pioneered the objectives of promoting females working in all roles of the music industry, set its  constitution to include everyone from receptionist to roadie.

Women In Music Festival continues to strive to highlight the work of the women working in the various fields and are hoping to generate new interest for its objectives with the support being thrown behind International Women In Music DAY.

Women In Music Day is our new celebration - giving all women who work in the music industry the opportunity to celebrate their true worth.  From Secretary to singer, from receptionist to roadie... we want to remember all the hard work that goes into the behind the scenes efforts of those who work toward progressive change in an industry where women have  struggled to be recognised for their efforts and hard work.

As we join hands across the globe, we want you to acknowledge your worth...invest in the Women In Music Day Ribbon And Rose - the emblem uniting all females roles within the industry.

With a global effort, we can make give acknowledge to all those who went before us....Billie Holliday, Salina, Aaliyah, Mama Thornton (original singer of the song Hound Dog, later covered by Elvis) Bessie Smith (an influence for Janis Joplin), Celia Cruz, Dusty Springfield, Dinah Shore, Dinah Washington, Edith Piaf (her song La Vie En Rose has been covered by NUMEROUS artists of various genres), Elizabeth Cotten, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta Baker, Eva Cassidy, Florence Ballard (fomerly of the Supremes) Judy Garland, June Pointer (founding member of the Pointer Sisters), June Carter Cash, Kristen Pfaff (of the group Hole), Kirsty McCall, LaVern Baker, Laura Brannigan, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, Ma Rainey, Nina Simone and the many many more.

Come join our Wall of Aid our international example of unity and you can be part of it. Help us to make a change, not just for current women working in the music industry, but for generations to come.
